A site in Sandusky, Ohio was chosen for this architectural concept project. The program called for a 50,000 sqft performance space, a 35,000 sqft ferry terminal and a 130,000 sqft casino.
As one ascends to the upper floors of the casino, the games move from low to high stakes. The building tempts visitors to climb to the riskier levels by offering more beautiful views through larger portholes in the walls. In addition, extensive exterior circulation wraps around the building to allow for outside observation of Sandusky, Lake Erie and the casino's ice skating rink. Multiple vertical circulation routes were positioned to allow for quick escape in case of emergency and ease of movement between floors.
